Technical Stuff

These pages are optimized for the most recent Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers. Not everything is perfect, not even browsers; therefore your feedback is solicited if problems are encounterd.

It is written on a PC with a 17" color monitor and is set to 1024 X 768 resolution.

My fonts are set at 11 pt. Arial. (You can change your font appearance by "clicking" the "Options" button on the top line of the Netscape header and clicking the "General Preferences" which will give you a set of folders. Click the "fonts" folder and change the "Proportional Font".)

I have the Toolbar and Location options turned off so that the maximum screen is usable. (You can turn these off by "clicking" the "Options" button on the top line of the Netscape header and clicking the "Toolbar" and "Location" options such that the "checkmark" does not appear.)

The images are .gif, animated .gif, and/or .jpg. I have tried to keep them as small as possible, consistent with clarity and quality.

Java Support is needed. Some versions of Netscape have problems.

Sound files are for the purpose of explaining a graphic or concept and are .wav files. They are intended as additional enhancements to the study pages. I doubt it would be cost effective to buy a sound card just to "Play" these files. There are no "cute" sounds.

Frames are not used as they reduce the usable screen space.

You will not need ActiveX nor Streaming plug-ins . However, if you have a video/sound card, it is recommended that you download a free copy of REAL PLAYER.

I have tried to stay with the "lowest common denominator" concept when constructing this page. You should not need to be a TechnoPhile in order to make it work, any where in the world. As an operational constraint, one should be able to use this page with a 28.8 baud modem, or faster. .
All of the line drawings are my own and were done using various (Powerpoint, Persuasion, Authorware, etc) software after which they be converted to .gif and .jpg files.

Most of the photoimages are from slides and were "scanned in" with a Polariod Sprintscan 35 Plus at 2700 dpi. They are archived as .tif files and have been converted to .gif and .jpg files.

The screen captures are from videotape.

This page is resident on its own hard drive on the Web server. As of July 1, 2002, it contained over gigabytes of information in 20,000 files.
