Introductory Plant Pathology
Pathogen Effects on Host Vascular Systems
EFFECT OF PATHOGENS ON TRANSLOCATION OF WATER AND NUTRIENTS IN THE HOST
PLANT (review Exposition)
- Debilitation of photosynthesis though reflected by the leaves way actually originate
in distal areas. Poor uptake of nutrients through diseased roots and slowed
movement through the vascular system will lead to Chlorosis, and perhaps death.
- Interference with upward translocation of water and inorganic nutrients
- Effect on absorption of water by roots
- Effect on translocation of water through the
xylem
- Effect on transpiration
- Interference with translocation of organic nutrients through the phloem
